Short-term Closure of Providence Village Main Entrance at 1200 Princess Street

As part of the ongoing construction at Providence Village, the main 1200 Princess Street entrance to Providence Village and Providence Motherhouse will be fully closed to all traffic beginning Monday, April 22, 2024.

This closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of new site services for Providence Care’s new Providence Manor long-term care home. The work includes connecting services such as communications, water, fire hydrants, electricity and sewer from the existing services on Princess Street to the new long-term care home site.

In addition to the service installations, physical modifications will be made on Princess Street to accommodate the new right-in, right-out flow of traffic at the 1200 Street entrance, where vehicles are allowed to enter and exit the entrance only by turning right. These modifications are being made based on a traffic study conducted and approved by the City of Kingston.

During this closure, all traffic for Providence Motherhouse and Providence Village will need to use the temporary entrance on Phillips Street (152 Phillips Street). Please be aware that there may be increased traffic on Phillips Street during this time. To help direct traffic, additional signage will be posted in the area. All Sisters, staff and visitors are reminded to please respect speed limits, drive with care and follow the posted signage along Phillips Street.

The closure is expected to last approximately two to three months, but please note that the construction and timelines are subject to change due to various factors such as weather, trade availability and City inspections.

We apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause and thank our neighbours and community for their continued understanding, patience and cooperation during the construction and development of Providence Village and Providence Care’s Providence Manor long-term care home and hospice residence projects. We understand that construction can be disruptive and are committed to minimizing any inconvenience to our neighbours.
