Kingston, ON, September 24, 2026 — Providence Village (“the Village”) is pleased to welcome Kahwá:tsire Indigenous-Led Child and Family Programs (“Kahwá:tsire”) as the newest subtenant to join its growing community of care. Kahwá:tsire will move into a space in the west wing of Providence Village in September 2026, joining a diverse network of organizations working to support the health, wellness, and connection of individuals and families across the community.
Kahwá:tsire provides Indigenous-led programming for Indigenous children from birth to six years of age and their families. Through indoor and outdoor activities centred on Indigenous languages, cultural teachings, and traditions, its programs help children and families strengthen connections to culture and community and support children in developing a strong and positive sense of their Indigenous identity.
“Every Indigenous child has a right to access teachings and resources about their cultures, and we are excited to be able to expand our programming and reach through our new space at Providence Village,” said Nicole Loft, Youth Enrichment & Development Program Manager, Kahwá:tsire Indigenous Led Child & Family Program (off-territory). “We look forward to collaborating with other organizations at the Village and creating new opportunities for land-based learning and education. Being part of this community opens up exciting possibilities for our program participants and families.”
Kahwá:tsire is currently finalizing its calendar of activities and programming to be offered at Providence Village. Plans include new and well-loved programs such as an Indigenous Children’s Book Club, Tea with Kokum (Grandmother), Indigenous language-learning playgroups, drumming and singing, and other opportunities for children and families to learn and connect.

Kahwá:tsire offers programming across Kingston, Frontenac, South Hastings, Prince Edward, and Lennox & Addington counties, with a particular focus on communities outside Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, where access to Indigenous cultural teachings and resources may be more limited. The organization also shares knowledge and learning opportunities with non-Indigenous allies to foster greater awareness, understanding, and respect for Indigenous cultures, teachings, and traditions.
