March 31, 2025 – Spring is in the air—and so is progress at Providence Village! Our latest drone video offers a fresh aerial look at the transformation underway. AB Smith Homestead House, Providence’s Care’s new hospice house, is now open to patients and their care partners—standing as a beautiful and compassionate new space for end-of-life care. Down the way, you’ll see impressive progress on the redevelopment of Providence Care’s long-term care home, Providence Manor, which is steadily taking shape. From the early signs of spring to the rising walls of these vital care facilities, the vision for the Village as a welcoming community where people can access health and wellness care and support is truly coming to life.
March 21, 2025 – The hoarding (temporary barriers to secure a construction site) in the Motherhouse is down in many areas, which means we’re getting closer to the finish line on our accessibility projects. Check out a sneak peek of one of our new barrier-free universal washrooms on the main level—complete with a water filling station nearby. Our West Wing lobby and reception area is also nearing completion, featuring new flooring, final finishes, and improved lighting. This space is set to be both beautiful and accessible! Plus, new elevator parts are arriving soon to help modernize our existing West Wing elevator, with work continuing into May.
January 13, 2025 – We’re excited to share another aerial view of the progress at Providence Village! This winter snapshot showcases major updates on Providence Care’s two projects: the redevelopment of Providence Manor long-term care home and Kingston’s first hospice residence. You can see the incredible progress made so far and the ongoing work to bring these much-needed care spaces to life. Each day, we move closer to realizing our vision of building a welcoming community where people in our region can access integrated care and support services to help meet their health and wellness needs.
December 16, 2024 – Lots of progress is being made in our accessibility projects at Providence Village. Concrete has been poured in the Motherhouse basement for the new elevator; concrete blocks are stacked and ready for the installation of the new Lula lift; and the walls and floors are tiled in all three new barrier-free washrooms. These projects are on track to be completed by mid-to-late winter. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue building a more inclusive and accessible Village!
November 11, 2024 – Recent drone footage illustrates that development on the Village property is well underway, with significant progress on Providence Care’s two onsite projects: Providence Manor and the hospice residence. With these exciting additions and our partners within Providence Motherhouse, the Village is truly coming to life.
October 25, 2024 – Preparation and work on the cul-de-sac for the hospice residence will occur throughout the month of November. All cul-de-sac work will occur on the Providence Village property and should not significantly impact neighbours, aside from the disruptions on Phillips Street. Additionally, paving on Phillips Street is scheduled for the beginning of December, including road and driveway repairs.
September 13, 2024 – New drone footage of the construction projects at the Village.
August 13, 2024 – Construction crews will be building the new cul-de-sac for Providence Care’s hospice residence throughout the month of September. This work will take place on the Providence Village property and is unlikely to neighbours directly. The Princess St entrance to Providence Village is open for visitors, guests and small deliveries, while the Phillips Street entrance remains in use for staff, Sisters and subtenants throughout Providence Care’s Providence Manor redevelopment construction and during larger projects at Providence Village that restrict access from Princess Street to the rear of the Providence Motherhouse.

June 10, 2024 – Construction crews hard at work on multiple projects at Providence Village! The vision of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul is truly coming to life before our eyes. Every day brings us closer to a community hub that will support, empower and uplift so many. Watch the progress in action in the latest drone footage, and stay tuned for more updates as we continue to transform this space into a vibrant, inclusive Village.
June 10, 2024 – Construction crews will open the gate on the Providence Village property that connects to Fairview Road to pave an area that extends about five feet on the Fairview side, through the gate, and several feet onto the Providence Village side. No construction vehicles will use Fairview Road to access the work area. Completion of this work is weather dependent. While we expect the work will be completed by the end of the day June 12, the schedule may be adjusted as needed. Please expect to see the gate open at various times throughout the entire week so that crews can ensure the work is completed properly.
May 28, 2024 – Civil work continues on Phillips Street as part of the development of Providence Care’s hospice residence. The next phase of work is expected to begin the week of June 3, 2024, and is estimated to take roughly two weeks to complete. During this phase, construction crews will replace the fire hydrant, shut-off valve and all necessary infrastructure up to the middle of Phillips Street. Impacts may include increased traffic, localized noise, intermittent traffic disruptions and/or minor traffic diversions.
May 16, 2024 – In the latest drone footage of the Village, you can see significant developments from our partners, Providence Care, on their long-term care home, Providence Manor, and hospice residence projects behind the Motherhouse. The roof structure on Providence Care’s hospice residence is nearing completion and interior building work is getting underway as the exterior of the building closes. Additionally, excavation, site servicing and preparation continue on Providence Care’s long-term care home, Providence Manor.
April 22, 2024 – As part of the ongoing construction at Providence Village, the main 1200 Princess Street entrance to Providence Village and Providence Motherhouse will be fully closed to all traffic beginning Monday, April 22, 2024 for 2 to 3 months. During this closure, all traffic for Providence Motherhouse and Providence Village will need to use the temporary entrance on Phillips Street (152 Phillips Street). This closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of new site services for Providence Care’s new Providence Manor long-term care home.
April 15, 2024 – Construction is underway on two new accessibility projects inside the Motherhouse at Providence Village. We’re installing a new elevator, lift, universal washroom, and barrier-free washroom for different areas of the Motherhouse. We’re thrilled to be enhancing accessibility for Sisters, Staff, current partners, and prospective subtenants. Ensuring accessibility is vital to fostering inclusivity and accommodating diverse needs within our community and is aligned to our vision of building an open, welcoming and supportive community hub for vulnerable populations in our region.
April 3, 2024 – Civil work on Phillips Street is scheduled for April and May, with an anticipated completion date by early June.

March 27, 2024 – A new phase of work is underway on Providence Care’s new hospice residence that is being built onsite. Originally scheduled to begin last fall, these activities have been postponed to spring due to construction planning. The anticipated schedule for this phase of work includes a crane on site in the first two weeks of April 2024 for installing roof trusses and steel deck pan; civil work on Phillips Street in April/May 2024 for trenching for new services; civil work at the future cul-de-sac in May 2024 for trenching to install services under the road; and construction of the new cul-de-sac in May/June 2024, which may cause intermittent traffic disruptions. Please note that dates provided are subject to change due to weather, trade availability and City Inspections.

February 9, 2024 – Effective February 12, 2024, Sisters, PVI staff and Motherhouse deliveries will begin using the Phillips Street entrance, located at the very east end of Phillips Street, to access the PVI property. This adjustment is necessary as a portion of the Princess Street entrance will be closed to the back of the property due to ongoing site work for Providence Care’s new Providence Manor building. We anticipate this change will be in effect until late spring/early summer.

September 1, 2023 – Contractors are scheduled to commence work on the west side of the Motherhouse near Fairview Road in early September 2023. The purpose of this phase of construction is to tie in utilities for Providence Care’s Providence Manor redevelopment project, which is expected to open in late 2026. The 320-bed home will be nestled in green space in a community-like setting, with a multi-faceted services hub designed to honour the 160-year legacy of Providence Care Founders, the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul.
August 31, 2023 – Environmental contractors are scheduled to commence work at the east end of Phillips Street mid-late September 2023. The purpose of this phase of construction is to tie in utilities for Providence Care’s new Hospice Kingston residence, which is expected to open in mid-2024. This 10-suite residence will be accessed via Phillips Street. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the estimated duration for this phase of construction is September to December 2023. Flagmen will be provided as required to maintain traffic flow.
August 21, 2023 – Construction activity, including excavation and rock breaking, will begin the week of August 28 to start installing new site services for the new Providence Manor.

April 24, 2023 – Tree removals are now complete as we prepare for work to begin to bring new services (water, sewer, gas and hydro) to the new Providence Manor site. Follow this link to watch drone footage provided by Sullivan Construction showing the progress.
March 7, 2023 – Providence Care has shared an update on the Providence Manor redevelopment project ramping up again after a necessary pause. The long-term care home redevelopment project was put on hold in February 2022 as pandemic-related inflation significantly affected the cost of construction. The Ministry of Long-Term Care committed additional funding to support the project and it is now ready to move forward without impact to project scope.
February 22, 2023 – Site preparation and construction activity will begin at Providence Village Inc. at 1200 Princess Street on March 6. Work will include preparatory activities related to tree protection and removal, along with infrastructure to support construction such as temporary roadways and parking, soil removal, and demolition of some smaller outbuildings. <more…>
January 11, 2023 – Providence Care shared an update on the Hospice Kingston project, noting that Emmons & Mitchell Construction Limited has been awarded the building contract. Work will begin once building permits are issued. Stay tuned for more information. The official address for the residential hospice is 152 Phillips Street.
