What is happening on the site?

As work continues at Providence Village, we are committed to sharing updates with our community on what to expect on our site.

May 28, 2024 – Civil work continues on Phillips Street as part of the development of Providence Care’s hospice residence. The next phase of work is expected to begin the week of June 3, 2024, and is estimated to take roughly two weeks to complete. During this phase, construction crews will replace the fire hydrant, shut-off valve and all necessary infrastructure up to the middle of Phillips Street. Impacts may include increased traffic, localized noise, intermittent traffic disruptions and/or minor traffic diversions.

May 16, 2024 – In the latest drone footage of the Village, you can see significant developments from our partners, Providence Care, on their long-term care home, Providence Manor, and hospice residence projects behind the Motherhouse. The roof structure on Providence Care’s hospice residence is nearing completion and interior building work is getting underway as the exterior of the building closes. Additionally, excavation, site servicing and preparation continue on Providence Care’s long-term care home, Providence Manor.

April 22, 2024 – As part of the ongoing construction at Providence Village, the main 1200 Princess Street entrance to Providence Village and Providence Motherhouse will be fully closed to all traffic beginning Monday, April 22, 2024 for 2 to 3 months. During this closure, all traffic for Providence Motherhouse and Providence Village will need to use the temporary entrance on Phillips Street (152 Phillips Street). This closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of new site services for Providence Care’s new Providence Manor long-term care home.

April 15, 2024 – Construction is underway on two new accessibility projects inside the Motherhouse at Providence Village. We’re installing a new elevator, lift, universal washroom, and barrier-free washroom for different areas of the Motherhouse. We’re thrilled to be enhancing accessibility for Sisters, Staff, current partners, and prospective subtenants. Ensuring accessibility is vital to fostering inclusivity and accommodating diverse needs within our community and is aligned to our vision of building an open, welcoming and supportive community hub for vulnerable populations in our region.

April 3, 2024 – Civil work on Phillips Street is scheduled for April and May, with an anticipated completion date by early June.

March 27, 2024 – A new phase of work is underway on Providence Care’s new hospice residence that is being built onsite. Originally scheduled to begin last fall, these activities have been postponed to spring due to construction planning. The anticipated schedule for this phase of work includes a crane on site in the first two weeks of April 2024 for installing roof trusses and steel deck pan; civil work on Phillips Street in April/May 2024 for trenching for new services; civil work at the future cul-de-sac in May 2024 for trenching to install services under the road; and construction of the new cul-de-sac in May/June 2024, which may cause intermittent traffic disruptions. Please note that dates provided are subject to change due to weather, trade availability and City Inspections.

February 9, 2024Effective February 12, 2024, Sisters, PVI staff and Motherhouse deliveries will begin using the Phillips Street entrance, located at the very east end of Phillips Street, to access the PVI property. This adjustment is necessary as a portion of the Princess Street entrance will be closed to the back of the property due to ongoing site work for Providence Care’s new Providence Manor building. We anticipate this change will be in effect until late spring/early summer.

The 320-bed home will be nestled in green space in a community-like setting, with a multi-faceted services hub designed to honour the 160-year legacy of Providence Care Founders, the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul.
