Kingston, ON, March 27, 2025 – Providence Village (“the Village”) is pleased to announce that Bereaved Families of Ontario – Kingston Region (BFO-Kingston) is joining the Village community as a new partner and subtenant, effective April 1, 2025. BFO-Kingston will be moving into dedicated space within Providence Motherhouse, marking an exciting new chapter for the organization as it establishes a long-term home to offer in-person support services.
“We are thrilled to welcome BFO-Kingston to the Village,” said Laurie French, President & CEO, Providence Village. “Their presence will not only enrich the programs and services available at the Village to individuals in our community, but also complement the existing offerings from our other subtenants. This integration of compassionate care and services is bringing our vision for the Village to life—a welcoming community where people can access integrated care and support services to help meet their health and wellness needs.”
BFO-Kingston brings decades of dedicated service to the community, ensuring that individuals grieving a death have access to caring, empathetic and compassionate support in a safe and confidential environment. Established in 1989 as part of the broader BFO family, BFO-Kingston has been a vital resource for individuals navigating grief, offering peer support, practical information, and a compassionate network of volunteers and staff. The organization, which began in Toronto as a grassroots initiative in 1978, has grown into a cornerstone of support for families in the Greater Kingston area.
“By joining Providence Village, we are excited to expand our space to include both an office for staff and a meeting room where peer grief support will take place,” shared Lisa Cassidy, Executive Director, BFO-Kingston. “We look forward to being part of the Village and its vision of bringing together various organizations to provide robust support for the health and wellness of people in the Kingston area. With our history of close collaboration with Alzheimer’s and Hospice, joining these organizations and others at the Village feels like a natural and inspiring next step.”
BFO-Kingston has a longstanding history of close partnerships with existing Providence Village subtenants Alzheimer Society of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington and Hospice Kingston—now Providence Care’s AB Smith Homestead House. Their move to Providence Village will provide opportunities for deeper collaboration of their invaluable services in support of holistic, community-based care–and bring the Village closer to creating an inclusive community of integrated care and compassionate support services.
