Kingston, ON, January 16, 2025 – Providence Village (“the Village”) is pleased to announce an enhanced partnership with the Providence Associates of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul (Providence Associates), who have become official subtenants of the Village as of January 1, 2025. This partnership follows the Providence Associates transition to an independent operating structure, now part of Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario (CHSO), which was formalized on April 1, 2024.
Since their founding in 1985, the Providence Associates have operated from offices within Providence Motherhouse at 1200 Princess Street in Kingston, Ontario. This new subtenancy agreement enables them to remain in their existing office space while formalizing their partnership with Providence Village. This milestone reinforces both organizations’ shared commitment to compassionate care and services that meet the diverse needs of the community.
“We are thrilled that the Providence Associates have chosen to remain at Providence Motherhouse as partners of Providence Village,” said Laurie French, President & CEO, Providence Village. “Their dedication to compassion and justice enriches our community, and we look forward to supporting their vital contributions as they continue their important work.”
The Providence Associates were founded by the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul (Sisters of Providence) as a way of inviting laypeople into association and a shared spirituality and vision. Since their inception, the Providence Associates have upheld the mission of Sisters of Providence, and they continue to strive to create an inclusive world where spirituality is valued, and all creation experiences compassion and justice. Their ongoing presence at Providence Motherhouse underscores their unwavering dedication to this legacy.
“The Providence Associates have been part of the community at the Motherhouse for 40 years, and we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” shared Barbara Baker, Director, Providence Associates. “Providence Village represents both a home and a launchpad for our continued mission to carry the charism of the Sisters of Providence into the future.”
As the Providence Associates prepare to celebrate their 40th anniversary this spring, their vibrant community of members across Canada—predominantly in Ontario—remains devoted to living out the values of the Sisters of Providence. Whether through prison ministry, environmental advocacy, or community education, each Associate brings the spirit of the Sisters’ mission into their unique vocations and daily life.
The work of the Providence Associates falls under the oversight of CHSO, which ensures Providence Associates have continued support and a place to call home as they live out the charism of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul.
“We have worked closely with Providence Village over the past few years and have been honoured to support their inspirational growth and development,” added Meghan Sharp, President and CEO, CHSO. “Now, we are humbled and delighted to work with the Providence Associates as part of CHSO. Their commitment to ‘strengthening our common call to compassionate service’ resonates deeply with CHSO’s mission. Their gifts will enhance our collective efforts to create healthy, inclusive communities.”
