Update on the Providence Commons Project and Feasibility Study

In 2023, the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul asked Providence Village to advance feasibility work on their prospective Providence Commons project as they considered future options for their property at 275 Sydenham Street in Kingston, the current site of Providence Manor.

Providence Village subsequently undertook a comprehensive feasibility study, which included a detailed review of adaptive reuse possibilities for housing and community services, a business model, design concepts, funding and financing strategies, building and planning assessments, and extensive engagement with interested parties. The feasibility study has been completed, and Providence Village presented the findings to the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul.

The feasibility report indicates a complex but viable development opportunity at 275 Sydenham Street, which would require adequate financing and a sizeable management team to oversee a project of this scale. The groundwork laid through the feasibility report provides a strong foundation for an independent organization to take the lead on the Providence Commons development.

The Sisters are now considering next steps regarding the future of their 275 Sydenham Street property and the prospective Providence Commons project. All inquiries or expressions of interest related to the property and/or the prospective Providence Commons project should be directed to the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul at 613-544-4525 ext. 105.
